18 Benchmarks

Section 1314 of the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007 (Public Law 110-28) sets forth eighteen benchmarks designed to measure the Iraqi government's progress toward stability. In keeping with the demands Congress has placed on the Iraqi government, the Southborough Republican Town Committee presents our eighteen benchmarks by which the citizens will evaluate the success of the U.S. Congress:

  1. Make Medicare and Social Security solvent and prevent their impending bankruptcy by taking a rational and realistic approach to both programs.

  2. Secure our borders and stop all illegal immigration.

  3. Require that every citizen must have a federal tamper proof identification card if he/she wants to use any State or Federal programs, obtain a drivers license, or vote.

  4. Bring home the troops from Kosovo that Clinton promised to bring home in 1999.

  5. Reform the legal system and introduce “the British system of Loser Pays” in civil suits, as well as demand speedier trials.

  6. Require that any local school district that accepts federal aid money must offer a school voucher to any student who wants to leave the system and go to a private school.

  7. Create a federal program that moves the U.S. toward energy independence, promoting fast track nuclear, selective drilling for gas and oil, develop wind and solar energy as well as alternative energy.

  8. Do not raise taxes and continue the Bush tax cuts to further spur the economy.

  9. Do not socialize our health care!

  10. Keep our military strong, provide pay increases for deployed soldiers, better housing and medical care for our military families and veterans.

  11. Enact reforms so that children of non-U.S. citizens receive U.S citizenship when their parents become U.S. citizens or they earn it on their own.

  12. Establish that every nominee for a federal job that requires advice and consent from the U.S. Senate must have an up or down vote within 120 days of the nomination delivery date or the candidate is automatically approved.

  13. Build and develop processing centers at key spots along our borders to allow migrant workers quick, traceable, and efficient transit in and out of the U.S.A

  14. Make the Patriot act permanent.

  15. Prevent erosion of our 2nd amendment rights and close database screening loop holes.

  16. Build and fund enough prisons to make mandatory minimum sentences a reality.

  17. Create laws shining more light on salaries, practices, donations, funding, and general expenses on non-profit organizations, lobbyists, unions, P.A.C.S., the U.N., and universities.

  18. Respect, protect, and support the people who protect and secure the people of the U.S.A.

Please contact your congressman and state senator and ask them to support these benchmarks. Together we can make a difference!

Thank you for visiting our web site. If you were led to our site by one of our radio, television or web page ads, we are glad they got you to see our 18 Benchmarks for the U.S. Congress. Please help us continue to advertise and promote our benchmarks so that they can become a reality here in the U.S.A. We love this country as we are sure you do, but as you know, only with your donation and other donations can we continue the advertising and outreach programs we have put in place to get enough people to help bring the kind of change we so desperately need. We must LEAD our elected officials for sadly they have lost their way. Once again please help us by donating.
